The NCG Bayou is handmade in our Nottingham workshop. This guitar breaks the mould somewhat. It is made from very old mahogany, which originally was a cutting table, dating from the early 1900’s. I have made several guitars from this wood previously. The body is fabricated from offcuts, bound together with carbon fibre rods. It has a handmade set neck. The neck is made from mahogany salvaged from a 1950’s shop fit in West Bridgford, Nottingham. The finish is gilded copper leaf, rubbed back to reveal the original worn table surface and then lacquered with coats of amber and clear lacquer.
The guitar is very well balanced and feels superb to hold and play. Frets are top quality Evo-Gold, which is no longer available commercially.
What commenced as an experimental build resulted in a top quality instrument. There is a four part series on our Youtube channel showing the build process and discussion on reclaimed woods in luthiery.
